  We inherited what looked like an interesting but sadly neglected long case clock from a recently deceased cousin.The clock was in a pretty poor shape and it was obvious from the cobwebs and general dust inside that it had not been running for many years. Several vital parts were missing. We handed over this rather unpromising looking collection of bit and pieces to Simon Allen of Dorset Antique Clocks who some weeks later drove up to London from Abbotsbury and presented me with a gleaming brass movement. With the clock dial now re-silvered I could see this was an important London maker and after some careful adjustments, Simon re-united the case with its movement and set up the clock mechanism. It was a total transformation and the old gentleman now keeps perfect time with a loud chime on the hour which thankfully can be silenced with a simple lever.
